The Poker Game
By Irving Sinclair (1895-1969)

I look at this framed print, and it touches me somewhere deep in my heart.

It is about the Poker game, played in this picture by three members of a family, spanning three generations. Is this picture really about the poker game, or does it go deeper than that?  The game is being played by the resolute young man on the left, by the broken middle aged man on the right, presumably  the father, and by the grand dad in the middle whose wisdom spans the ages. So is this picture about the game or is it about the lives they have led, about the history they have shared, about the challenges they have undergone?  Is it about holding on to dreams in spite of the odds?  Is it about holding on to each other?

Or is this more about the drink?
